great weekend...not so great Wednesday

I spent last weekend in Helotes, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. I saw some fabulous shows and spent some time with some great friends. Here's the rundown: MMC Friday, Eady and Jamie Griffin-Wilson Saturday, Charlie Sunday...

I drove home EARLY Monday morning and went into the office that afternoon. It looked to be an easy week, with today being the only busy day. Well...things didn't go as I planned.

Yesterday morning, I cut the hell out of my face. I don't know how to describe what it looked like immediately afterwards. Let's just say Thank God I am not one of those people that faint at the sight of their own blood. I was just about to get into my car and dropped a file. I had already opened the door just a few inches. Well, I bent down and scraped my face from my cheek up to my eyebrow. I believe my exact words were F@!# ME! (I rarely drop the F-bomb...just FYI). However, I thought to myself, "Deal with it, you're going to have a red scratch and a bruised eye. Get to work." Oh, if only.

I get in the car and glance up at the rearview mirror. I see a stream of blood running from my eyebrow down the right side of my face. It looks like I was attacked by someone with a knife or Edward Scissorhands fetish. How I managed to not damage my eye is beyond me...but for the grace of God, I guess. I get back in the house and quickly apply pressure with a cold, wet towel. I clean up the mess, apply some ointment and bandages and go in to work. (After cleaning the blood from the console, seat and armrest in the car...) I don't step more than 5 feet in the door when I am told, "GO HOME!" At this point, the throbbing is starting to set in. I am glad I'll have the day to rest...but am afraid to fall asleep b/c of a fear that I may have a concussion. I managed to stay awake all day and fall asleep around midnight. I woke up and (stupidly) forgot all about the gash on my brow. Ouch.

It looks a little better (the cheek does, at least) today. The lower eyelid is the worst! Imagine carpet burn on your eyelid...blinking/sneezing sucks. Everything else, I can live with. I forget about it...and then get gaping stares from people and remember.

Here's hoping I get through the remainder of this month without another injury. I know that's a lot to ask...

I had plans this weekend to go to Amarillo to see EYB and then the BL Saturday to see Charlie. I'm don't think I'm quite ready to go out to a bar just yet.

Sidenote:

Inglorious Basterds
I loved it. If you're a Quentin Tarantino fan at all...go see it. It was not at all what I expected. It was funny, suspenseful and of course action-packed. The tension in some of the scenes was unbearable. Yes, it's long. Yes, it probably could have been edited down to a more desirable running time. That doesn't change the way I felt about it ultimately.
